Because of warmer winter, Taiwan attracts many migratory birds to spend the winter every year. Especially, the globally endangered Black-Faced Spoonbills fly in flocks to arrive the southwest coast of Taiwan from October each year to April next year. In order to welcome these returning friends, the government established Taijiang National Park in 2009, features a wetland, including sandbars, salt pans and fish farms to provide a rich source for food and make it a major base for many migratory birds. Due to the efforts of these years, the number of black-faced spoonbills in Taiwan continues to increase every year.
